This app measures the total response delay, which includes both the controller’s electronic input lag and the human reaction time, rather than just isolating the controller delay itself. The result you see (in milliseconds) is influenced not only by the latency of your controller hardware, but also by how quickly you, as the user, respond to the prompt. This means the numbers reported are a combination of:
- Human reaction speed – from the moment the indicator changes to when you press a button
- The controller’s own input processing and communication time
- Any software or system-level delays involved in registering the input
Average human reaction time is around 250ms, so if you are honestly getting a score around that, then your controller latency is pretty good. To get the fastest controller with lowest latency check our list here.
The design is similar to professional gamepad latency testers and online gamepad tools, many of which note that user-involved tests always measure the combined effect rather than just the hardware/input lag of the controller itself. For truly isolating the controller’s own technical delay, specialized hardware or methods (such as dedicated electrical or photodiode probes) are required, but these are outside the scope of typical web or app-based gamepad testers.
