Open Excel Files in Google Sheets on Windows Automatically

If you don’t have Microsoft Excel or you just want a fast way to open XLS and XLSX files then you can do it easily via Google Chrome. Here are the steps:

  1. Get the official Extension:
  2. Right-Click and Choose Google Chrome:
    • Right-click on the XLS/XLSX Excel file, select “Open with,” and choose “Google Chrome” to open the file.
  3. Make it Permanent:
    • If Google Chrome isn’t listed, select “Choose another app,” find Chrome in Program Files/Google/Chrome/Application/chrome.exe, and check “Always use this app to open .xlsx files” for a permanent setting.
  4. Open the file in Google Chrome
    • Open the document in Google Sheets via Google Chrome. For full benefits, save it as a Google Sheet for real-time collaboration, auto-saving, and easy sharing.
  5. Save as Google Sheets
    • Your Excel file is now effortlessly accessible and editable in Google Sheets, when you click “Save as Google Sheets” after opening the XLS or XLSX file.
