Fantech Nova Pro Controller Review

Fantech Nova Pro (WGP14V2 model) is a really interesting controller – it’s got the Playstation layout of symmetrical joysticks, but the ergonomics are of the Xbox controller. There’s touchpad like in the Dualsense, Hall Effect triggers and joysticks and a mic jack. So it’s really packed with features. Only one important thing missing is the lack of 2.4Ghz connection via a dongle, there’s a wired and Bluetooth 5.0 options. But let’s take a closer look.

What’s in the box?

  1. Fantech Nova Pro controller
  2. One set of bigger sized replaceable thumbsticks
  3. Set of PRO Aim O-Ring (soft, medium and hard)
  4. Type-C charging cable
  5. User manual
  6. Thank you letter and warranty card

It’s compatible with PC, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The latency is alright: the polling rate is the Xbox standard: 250Hz. It’s not the highest polling rate with lots of controllers having 1000Hz, but high polling rate doesn’t automatically mean there’s super low latency. And with Nova Pro button latency is pretty good at 5-8ms, but the joystick latency is not that great at around 25ms. Jitter is low and deadzones are good.

Joysticks are good, I’m not sure with Hall effect sticks are there but they feel accurate, but they could be a tiny bit more responsive. But I only noticed it when I looked at the joystick’s latency numbers in Gamepadla.

It weights 289g. Face buttons are membrane, they are pretty decent for membrane buttons. I’m not a big fan of the hair trigger. There’s a trigger lock so you can switch between analog and hair trigger, but the hair trigger isn’t clicky. It works fine, I just miss that satisfying click sound.

There’s gyro, but I haven’t tested it as I don’t game much with gyro. Back buttons are mappable to other buttons.

The biggest selling points for me are:

  • Hall effect joysticks and triggers
  • Ergonomic symmetrical layout
  • Connectivity with PS4
  • Interchangeable sticks

The interchangeable sticks is a really nice feature. In the box you get bigger sticks that you can exchange easily and you also get 3 pairs of o-rings. Soft, medium and hard. This is super rare and is saves you the hassle to order a set of these. You can improve your aim in FPS games with these, but it requires practice.

The Nova Pro WGP14V2 costs $48.80 on the official store. Now, this is a really great value for what you get with this controller. If you need a great controller for PS4, PC, Switch with that layout, good ergonomics, interchangeable thumbsticks and hall effect joysticks and triggers then this is definitely a good option.
