Roseselsa Ceramics Ultra Review – Excellence on a Budget

Every brand likes to slap on the word “Ultra” onto their products. Roseselsa has done the same here. But are these earbuds deserving of that suffix? Well, these earbuds from Roseselsa, in my opinion, are one of the best sounding truly wireless earbuds at this price point. Affordable, refined, and honestly much more impressive than I initially expected them to be.

At a price of $49.99, the Roseselsa Ceramics Ultra is an affordable pair of earbuds which, dare I say, offer the IEM experience in a TWS form factor. I’ll tell you why I think so in this review.

The box is simple, clean, and compact. The features of the earbuds are listed on the back, which we will get to in a bit.

Inside the box, you will find:

• The earbuds inside their charging case
• USB-A to USB-C cable
• 3 Pairs of silicone eartips of different sizes (S, M, L)
• 1 Pair of foam eartips pre-installed on the earbuds
• The manual

The packaging is solid enough, so I don’t think that the contents will be damaged in transit.

The overall build quality of the Roseselsa Ceramics Ultra is quite good.

THE CHARGING CASE

The charging case is nice contoured shape with a small flat rectangle in the front and the rear so that the case can lay flat on a desk surface. The material is a nice, high quality plastic with glossy speckles which give it a pretty unique appearance. It’s built well and all the moving parts feel solid and not clunky at all. The LED that you can see in the front of the case acts as both a charge indicator as well as a connection indicator. The pairing button is on the underside of the case, right next to the USB-C charging port.

THE EARBUDS

The Ceramics Ultra is quite a pretty pair of earbuds. The shape is comfy to hold and orientate without looking, while also looking soft and pretty. The little gold screw at the bottom which holds the two halves of the body together almost gives it an earring vibe. I usually don’t like branding all over my products, but it’s done quite tastefully here. I’d even go as far as saying that it adds character to the earbuds, like a camera lens. I quite like these.

The fit is quite good. They don’t fall out easily. The included eartips work perfectly fine for me, but I’ve had a few of my friends and siblings use these earbuds and the eartips (tested all sizes) don’t form a perfect seal in some of their ear canals. So it seems like your mileage may vary with these eartips. We’ll talk more about how this affects the sound in the next section.

The Ceramics Ultras have a single dynamic driver each, but they are Roseselsa’s self developed “Planck High Resolution drivers”(Planck HR+ technology). The diaphragm is supposedly made with a dual-material composite, which makes it more flexible, leading to a thumpier lower end and more detailed bass capabilities. I can vouch for this, as the sound produced here is excellent.

The Ceramics Ultra is a little bass forward, but the sound it produces is quite rich and versatile overall. It’s a bit of an L-shaped sound signature rather than a V-shape I believe. I actually didn’t manage to find a graph for these earbuds. The overall vibe is a warm, energetic, and inoffensive sound signature. It’s a pair of earbuds well suited for mainstream genres, without sacrificing much on the rest of the rest of the spectrum. All vocals sound excellent on the Ceramics Ultra – male, female, and outliers like Vitas.

The mids are clean and the treble doesn’t feel shouty. But it does lack a tiny bit of detail at the top end of the spectrum. It’s difficult to describe in words, but it lacks some of that “sparkle” that you get in high end IEMs with multiple drivers. This is not to say that the top end lacks detail. It is an excellent audio experience. Oh also, even after hours of listening to music and watching YouTube on these earbuds, my ears weren’t fatigued much. This is impressive as my ears do get fatigue within an hour usually.

The soundstage is quite decent. It’s not as wide as open-back headphones obviously, but it’s also wide enough to discern all instruments quite well at different distances. The soundstage shortens a minute amount when you turn ANC on. Overall, a satisfying experience.

Directionality is also good, and you can tell where a sound is coming from with good accuracy. I’ve played a few games with it, and I could depend on these earbuds to tell me where a sound is coming from.

In the app, there are 4 EQ presets – Classic, Pop, HiFi, and Rock. Out of these, my favourite profile has been Pop, and everything I’ve said so far has been in this preset.

Here is the list of songs I used for testing these earphones. I picked a variety of genres and styles.

With LDAC or LHDC codecs (I only tested LDAC), the Cadence Tensilica HiFi DSP chipset makes its presence known. There’s more details in the music that you would usually need an external DAC for. I rarely use this feature though, because it increases battery drain and you can only really tell the difference in a silent room.

ANC

The ANC (Active noise cancellation) is surprisingly good here. You get 4 ANC settings in the app :

• No ANC – Regular earphones experience
• Transparency mode – Works pretty well. Amplifies all sounds.
• Wind Noise Cancellation – Cuts out wind sounds when running/ on a bus, etc; works very well
• Deep Noise Cancellation – The proper ANC. Works great. Supposedly blocks up to 50dB of noise (but I have no way to actually measure this)

Behind a second menu in the experimental features tab, you get “Extreme Noise Cancellation” which in my experience did nothing.

One thing I’m especially liking about the Ceramics Ultra is that you don’t get that “pressure” or “blockage” feeling when you enable ANC in a lot of other earphones. These just feel natural.

The ANC is good enough for day-to-day travel and such. It doesn’t completely muffle out people speaking in close proximity, especially women’s higher pitched voices (thanks mom). It lets a teeny tiny bit of ambient noise through when you’re not listening to anything on the earphones. But as soon as there’s sound coming from the earbuds, everything outside disappears. And this is me judging the ANC in a tier 2 city in India, a country with a very loud noise threshold.

I highly value good ANC because it is the difference between having to listen to my music at 80% volume in a crowded bus and a comfortable, healthy 30-40%.

Other Important Features

MICROPHONE

The microphone performance here is quite good for a TWS. The ENC (environmental noise cancellation) utilizes 4 microphones and gets rid of most of the background noise. Your voice goes through quite clearly. Of course, since this is a TWS after all, your voice doesn’t sound super natural. But that’s alright. It gets calls done well, even in noisy and busy environments.

BATTERY LIFE

The battery life is awesome. I haven’t found myself worrying about low battery with these earbuds ever. 11 hours of playback time per earbud and 40 hours if you include the charging case is plenty for almost all people.

Of course, using ANC reduces this battery life a bit, it’s mitigated by the lower volume you set by virtue of its good ANC. And if you use codecs like LDAC or LHDC, the battery life becomes even shorter. But even though I use ANC all the time, I haven’t had to worry about battery life at all.

This is also in part due to the very fast charging feature. It charges up to 2 hours of playback time in just 10 minutes of charging. Do note that there is only USB-C charging here, and no wireless qi charging.

AUDIO LATENCY & GAME MODE

In “music mode”, the Ceramics Ultra have a latency of about 300-350ms. Most apps like YouTube or Spotify automatically mitigate this by adding a delay to the on-screen content. Some apps like VLC media player don’t do it automatically so I had to manually set the delay to 350ms while watching a movie. (Which is how I found this number XD)

But in “game mode”, the latency is merely 50ms. This is competitive with other TWS with a low latency mode. It obviously doesn’t compete with a wired pair of earphones, but it’s a good feature to have.

DUAL DEVICE CONNECTIVITY

What a timesaver this feature has been. As a student-doctor, I have to constantly switch between my phone and my tablet. The ability to quickly switch between the two devices without having to pair the earbuds has saved me a bunch of hassle and a lot of time.

TOUCH CONTROLS

I like that there are separate controls for each earbud. The touch sensor is very responsive and I have never had a missed input on it. It just works 👍🏼.

There are other useful features like IPX4 water resistance which don’t really need an explanation. They’re listed in the “specifications and features” section at the start of the review.

The App

The Roselink mobile app is an excellent companion to the Ceramics Ultra earbuds. It has a ton of features which you can see in the screenshots here :

One thing that the app lacks is a granular equalizer, but I’ve been using a third party app for this purpose and it works.

CONCLUSION

The Roseselsa Ceramics Ultra are an incredible pair of earbuds that look, feel, and sound excellent. I love these earbuds, and I don’t see how any other pair of earbuds could do better in this price range.

These will be my daily drivers for the time being, and I highly recommend these to anyone reading this review.
